Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy

The Journal of Libya for Geographical Studies (JLGS) respects authors’ rights and intellectual property and is committed to protecting the moral and scholarly rights of authors and rights holders, while upholding the principles of integrity and transparency throughout all stages of the publication process.

Authors retain their moral and scholarly rights to their published works and confirm that the manuscript submitted to the journal is their original work, that they possess the necessary rights to publish it, and that it does not infringe upon the intellectual property or copyright of any third party.

Upon submission, authors confirm that the work has not been previously published in its entirety in any other publication medium and is not simultaneously under consideration for publication by another journal or publisher, unless otherwise permitted in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies.

Authors bear full responsibility for obtaining the necessary permissions to reuse any copyrighted material, including texts, images, maps, tables, figures, or data owned by other individuals or organizations, and for properly acknowledging and citing their sources.

The journal is committed to clearly identifying the author or authors and attributing the published work to them. The journal shall not make any substantive changes to the scientific content of a manuscript without the authors’ approval, except for editorial and technical modifications necessary in accordance with accepted publication standards.

Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, the journal is granted the rights necessary to publish, electronically disseminate, archive, index, and distribute the work through its online platform and relevant academic databases and repositories, in accordance with the terms of the license adopted by the journal.

Authors may retain the right to use their published works, reuse them, or deposit them in institutional or academic repositories or on their professional websites, in accordance with the terms of the journal’s licensing and open access policies, provided that the original publication in the journal is properly acknowledged.

The journal respects intellectual property rights relating to published materials and takes appropriate action when allegations of plagiarism, copyright infringement, or unauthorized use of content arise. Where a substantive violation is established, the journal may take appropriate editorial action, including correcting, retracting, or removing the published article, in accordance with its Correction and Retraction Policy.

The journal also undertakes to handle any dispute concerning copyright or intellectual property in a professional and fair manner. It seeks to verify the facts, communicate with the parties concerned, and take appropriate action in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies and relevant legal and ethical frameworks.

The journal shall not be held responsible for any infringement of intellectual property rights arising from materials, data, images, maps, or other content submitted by authors. Authors remain responsible for establishing their ownership of such materials or obtaining the necessary legal permissions for their use.

The journal confirms that all authors’ rights and intellectual property rights are subject to the terms of the license adopted by the journal, its open access policy, and applicable laws and regulations, thereby ensuring an appropriate balance between protecting authors’ rights, facilitating access to scholarly knowledge, and promoting the use and dissemination of published research.
